Abstract

Objective: The objective of this work is to report a series of three cases of lower lip frenectomy using the diode laser. Case details: Three patients without systemic changes attended a college with the indication of lower lip frenectomy due to the presence of an anomalous lower lip frenulum causing gingival recessions (GR) and dentin hypersensitivity in teeth 31 and 41. On clinical examination, patients presented RG RT-I in Cairo and as a treatment, lip frenectomy was proposed with a surgical diode laser, the same surgical protocol was performed in the three cases, with bilateral lower local anesthesia and the frenectomy was performed with a high-power 980nm diode laser, at the power of 2W, with a dose of 4J/cm2, energy at 6J, pulsed mode and cylindrical tip fiber for 15 minutes until total removal of the lower labial frenulum, then the laser was used again to cause surgical hemostasis, with no need for suturing. Postoperatively, peripherally acting analgesics and a red laser were prescribed, 2 joules per point and 20 seconds in the surgical areas for tissue repair. Conclusion: The patients had their lower labial frenulum completely removed and in cases 1 and 2 the postoperative results were without pain or discomfort.
