Abstract
Objective: The aim of this literature review is to present the most recent studies on the mechanical and biological properties of TCP when added to zirconia, in order to evaluate its feasibility and potential for use in dental applications. Literature review: The addition of tricalcium phosphate to zirconia has been investigated as a way to improve the properties of this material. Some recent research has focused on modifying the surface of zirconia by depositing a layer of calcium phosphate, thereby allowing the formation of a direct bone-implant interface, improving the bone healing process around the implant. β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is a promising material for coating inert bone implants due to its favorable biological characteristics, such as osteoconductivity, bioresorbability, and bone-binding capacity, as well as increasing the density and grain size of zirconia, improving its fracture resistance. Conclusions: Studies suggest that the addition of tricalcium phosphate to zirconia can improve the mechanical and biological properties of the material, making it a promising option for medical and dental applications.
