Abstract

Objective: To assess the prevalence of e-cigarette use among undergraduate health students at a higher education institution in the city of Porto Velho, Rondônia. Methods: This is a quantitative study, characterized as an exploratory descriptive study, in which nursing, medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy students from a private higher education institution in Brazil, from the first to the ninth year, of both sexes, and over 18 years of age, were invited to participate in this study. Results: Fifty students from health courses were interviewed. Regarding the use of e-cigarettes, 32% of the interviewees had never used any form of these devices. The number of students who stopped using e-cigarettes was significant, totaling 42% of the interviewees. 40% of the interviewees stated that they had no symptoms, while 26% reported symptoms after starting to use e-cigarettes. Conclusion: In conclusion, the students of health courses at the university center demonstrated results that highlight the need for continuous awareness and health education campaigns to reduce the use of e-cigarettes.
