Abstract
Objective: To analyze the multidisciplinary scope of health in the treatment of patients with severe odontogenic infections in a hospital environment. Methods: This is a descriptive study of the integrative literature review type with articles published between 2014 and 2024, in English, Portuguese and/or French) with complete text, selected through the databases: PubMed, MEDLINE, SciELO and BVS, using the descriptors: “Focal Infection, Dental”, “Infection Control, Dental”, “Nursing Service, Hospital” and “Hospital Care”. Results: The final sample consisted of 24 articles, which described evidence of dissemination of the infectious process to adjacent tissues and fascial spaces of the head, neck and chest region, which invade underlying deep tissues, requiring precision and promptness in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of cases. The prophylaxis of odontogenic infections is a fundamental point in combating and attenuating the dissemination of oral microbiota in adjacent, underlying and systemic extensions. Final considerations: Current literature conjectures that having a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team in the management of these cases confers important relevance in the effectiveness of surgical and/or drug therapy, especially at the level of hospitalization.
