Abstract
Objective: To analyze the profiles of older adults assisted by home care services to understand the peculiarities of this population and reflect on the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Quantitative research with 143 dyads (older adults and family/primary caregivers) assisted by the Home Care Service, using the Barthel Index and a structured form containing personal, socioeconomic, and clinical data. Descriptive and statistical analyses were performed. Results: The profile included older adults dependent on care and caregivers who also had an average age close to old age, with comorbidities and vulnerabilities, mainly social and economic, placing them at risk for COVID-19. The data presented provided recommendations for home care during COVID-19, offering information that enhances and contributes to expanding the perspective, revealing the reality of a segment of the population in a vulnerable situation at home. Conclusion: This study can help professionals consider the profile and individual and collective needs of older adults and caregivers during their work process, as well as contribute to the formulation of social and health policies.
