Abstract

Objective: Analyze the sociodemographic profile of hospitalized pregnant women and the use of medications during high-risk pregnancy, in order to compare the prevalence of consumption by the Food and Drug Administration risk category in accordance with clinical situations and pharmacological classifications. Methods: Using a clinical database contained in the Management Application for University Hospitals, 128 medical records were evaluated from high-risk pregnancy beds at a Hospital in Maranhão with a retrospective and quantitative cross-sectional approach. For data processing, the SPSS Statistics 20.1 Software was used with a significance level of 5%. Results: The profile of the patients was mostly mixed race between 21 and 30 years old, from the capital, primiparous in their last trimester of pregnancy, without previous abortions, polymedicated during hospitalization. From the sample, 100% used at least one category C medication and 19.53% used categories D and X. The most prescribed classes were: antiemetics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antianemics and antimicrobials. Conclusion: The use of potentially teratogenic medications is related to morbidities or health complications, so thatit becomes necessary to involve the clinical pharmacist with the team, prioritizing the use of drugs that have less passage through the placental barrier.
