Abstract

Objective: Investigate the reasons why children's parents refuse to vaccinate them. Methods: Integrative Review of scientific articles indexed in health databases, covering the period from 2020 to 2024, based on the PIO strategy (P: population; I: intervention; O: outcome) that delimited the research: “What are the reasons that lead to children’s parents refusing to vaccinate them?” The following descriptors and their equivalents in English and Spanish were used: child, children, vaccination refusal, vaccine refusal, reason, reasons, factor, factors, behavior, behaviors and conduct. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and carrying out a careful analysis, 24 articles were selected from a total of 243, found on the VHL (147), PUBMED (94) and SCIELO (2) platforms. These articles were analyzed on the Rayyan platform. Results: In the articles analyzed, the main reasons for childhood vaccine refusal were distrust in the effectiveness of the vaccine and concern about side effects. These reasons were consistently highlighted in all studies reviewed. Final Considerations: Vaccine hesitancy is influenced by several factors. Studying vaccine acceptance and refusal is essential to understand these determinants and improve public health strategies, guiding future community initiatives.
