Abstract

Objective: To analyse the profile of antibiotic use at the Bone Marrow Transplant Centre of the National Cancer Institute (CEMO/INCA). Methods: This is a descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study, which evaluated the use of antibiotics in patients admitted to CEMO/INCA, in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro-RJ, from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2021. 101 patients aged ≥ 18 years were included in the study. Sociodemographic data, clinical profile, antibiotic consumption, antibiotic therapy regimen and microbiological results were collected. Antibiotic consumption was expressed as a defined daily dose (DDD) per 100 bed days. The data obtained was analysed using descriptive and qualitative statistics. The results were presented in the form of frequency tables and graphs using the Microsoft Excel 2013 programme. Results: 14 drugs showed considerable consumption, such as cefepime (1434.3 DDD/100 bed/day) and meropenem (1350.7 DDD/100 bed/day). The start of the antibiotic was broad spectrum and it was possible to observe the practice of de-escalation. Conclusion: The antibiotic prescription profile is within the recommended guidelines, contributing to the rational use of medicines and patient safety, as well as to the proper management of infections.
