Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the effect of an internal ceramic layer in masking a darkened substrate using highly translucent lithium disilicate, without compromising its adhesion properties. Methods: We evaluated the bond strength of lithium disilicate in the microshear test after application of IPS InLine PoM Opaquer BL1/BL2 ceramic (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) with a control group, a test with hydrofluoric acid etching for 20 seconds, and another test with application for 60 seconds (n=15). The colour was recorded on a digital spectrophotometer and analysed based on CIEDE2000, and the groups were divided into 4 ceramic thicknesses (n=15). Results: The use of internal ceramics significantly increased the bond strength (p<0.005) compared to the non-applied group. The ANOVA test showed a statistically significant difference between the groups (p<0.05) when evaluating the effect of make-up on the final shade. Conclusion: The substrate masking occurred effectively at all thicknesses, and bond strength was not adversely affected.
