Abstract
Objective: To report a rare case of a male patient with deep granuloma annulare affecting the proximal region of the thigh. Case Details: Granuloma annulare is a benign inflammatory skin disease of unknown cause that presents with annular-shaped lesions. This disease has several variants, including deep granuloma annulare, which was first reported in 1971. We report the case of a male diabetic patient with an ovoid, erythematous macule located at the root of the left thigh, whose diagnosis confirmed the clinical suspicion of deep granuloma annulare. The classic lesions of deep granuloma annulare are painless, hardened subcutaneous nodules with well-defined borders. Although spontaneous remission is common in some cases, multiple lesions in exposed areas may require medical treatment. Surgical excision may be considered in cases of large nodules or those that are aesthetically displeasing. Final considerations: There is a need to expand knowledge about the subtypes of granuloma annulare to direct the clinical investigation of suspected cases, establish diagnostic criteria, and determine effective and safe therapeutic strategies.
