Abstract

Objective: To evaluate cardiovascular risks among military firefighters in the metropolitan region of Belém - PA. Methods: This is an observational and cross-sectional study, conducted with 275 individuals of both sexes, aged between 30 and over 60 years. The data were collected from patient records and cardiovascular risk was assessed using a questionnaire containing the Framingham Global Risk Score. Results: The study demonstrated a high prevalence of sedentary lifestyle (61.5%), obesity (27.3%) and arterial hypertension (18.9%) among military firefighters, observing statistically significant proportions of males (91.6%), prevalence of individuals between 50 and 59 years (50.9%) and intermediate cardiovascular risk stratification (55.6%). Conclusion: This research demonstrated the predominance of the intermediate CV risk stratum in the population analyzed, with emphasis on the risk factors of sedentary lifestyle, obesity and hypertension. The study inferred that these factors can be enhanced by other conditions, such as stress inherent to the profession, and result in even more frequent and earlier CV events.
