Abstract

Objective: To identify the scientific evidence of the use of peripherally inserted central venous catheters in palliative oncological care. Methods: Qualitative approach of the integrative literature review type, The search was carried out in May 2024, in the PubMed, SciVerse Scopus and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences databases and for data treatment, Bardin content analysis was used. Results: Nine articles were included in the study and the following emerged: 1) Indications for the use of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) and 2) Patient's perception of the PICC puncture procedure as well as satisfaction with its use and its indications for insertion. Final considerations: Based on the findings, it can be considered that the promotion of a new alternative for medication infusion, for patients with the proper indication for use of the PICC, promotes a better quality of life since a reliable venous access It reduces anxiety and facilitates the infusion of medication to control symptoms.
