Abstract

Objective: To discuss the new therapeutic measures used to treat Severe Asthma in children and adolescents, highlighting positive aspects and weaknesses, the mechanism of action of immunobiologicals, their effectiveness and safety. Methods: An integrative review of the literature was carried out using articles published in the last five years, available on the “Science direct”, “National Library of Medicine” and Virtual Health Library platforms. The search strategy returned 30 articles, of these 22 were included. Severe asthma, treatment, monoclonal antibodies, children were used as descriptors. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were listed. Results: After analyzing the selected studies, it was observed that the medications most used for this treatment provided an improvement in symptoms and a reduction in exacerbations and hospitalization of asthma in pediatric and adolescent patients. Conclusion: Recent studies on drugs highlight that immunobiologicals are promising for the treatment of moderate and severe asthma, bringing significant benefits to patient management, as they block or reduce the stimuli that trigger asthma symptoms, improving the expiratory volume requested in the first second (FEV1), reduce the possibility of worsening and are effective and safe for pediatric use.
