Abstract

Objective: Identify scientific evidence on nursing care in palliative care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, addressing the challenges and difficulties faced by the team. Methods: This is an integrative review carried out in the databases: LILACS, MEDLINE and BDENF. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 articles were selected. Among these articles, those published in Portuguese and English were selected.  Results: After cross-referencing the descriptors, 439 studies were found. After reviewing the titles and abstracts, 91 were selected for full-text review, and of these, only 11 met the inclusion criteria. Of the studies analyzed, 5 (45.45%) were in English and 6 (54.55%) were in Portuguese. The results were categorized into two main themes: 1) challenges faced by nursing professionals in neonatal palliative care and 2) strategies adopted by professionals to address these challenges. It is discussed that although neonatal palliative care is a new topic in Brazil, more studies are needed to ensure that professionals are adequately prepared. Final considerations: The study highlighted the need for greater training and specific protocols in neonatal palliative care.
