Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impacts of the pandemic on the notification of childhood visceral leishmaniasis in the city of Parauapebas-PA. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study conducted with 104 patients diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis, aged zero to twelve years. Results: 81 cases were recorded in the pre-pandemic period and 23 in the pandemic period, with the age of one year predominant in the years 2014 to 2019 and less than one year old between 2020 and 2021. Regarding the type of entry and year of diagnosis, there was a predominance of new cases in all the years analyzed. The pentavalent antimony was considered the drug of choice regardless of the periods. Conclusion: Although there was no significant difference in notifications of childhood visceral leishmaniasis between the periods, we showed how important it is to take political actions to promote the well-being of society, especially those who are more exposed to unacceptable life indicators.
