Abstract

Objective: To identify temporal and spatial patterns in the distribution of hospitalization rates for children under five years old due to septicemia in Brazil. Methods: Ecological study about hospitalizations for septicemia from 2008 to 2019. Rates per thousand children were calculated and the time trend was analyzed by the Joinpoint Regression and the Scan and the univariate and bivariate MoranMap map. Results: There was a significant upward trend for Brazil (APC = 1.7% CI95% 1.0-2.3) and for the southern region (APC = 3.8% CI95% 2.7 -5.0). There were clusters with high rates of hospitalization in the southern and southeastern regions of Brazil. The bivariate analysis showed the clusters with high rates of hospitalization where there was a low supply of pediatric beds and pediatric ICUs. Conclusion: There was a tendency to increase hospitalization due to children's septicemia in Brazil, related to the low supply of pediatric health services.
