Abstract

Objective: To describe the early effect of pelvic floor kinesiotherapy as biofeedback on urinary incontinence in patients undergoing prostatectomy. Methods: Integrative literature review. The descriptors were used in vocabularies controlled in DECS: Prostatectomy, Therapeutics and Urinary incontinence. A search for articles was carried out in SciELO and PUBMED, using the Boolean operator “AND”. Articles in English and Portuguese that addressed the topic were included. Duplicate articles and/or articles that did not fit the topic, research, reflection, opinion, comments, theoretical essays, editorials, letters and reviews were excluded. The search identified 84 articles, 48 from PUBMED and 36 from SciELO. After screening, which included analysis of titles, abstracts and full texts, 78 articles were excluded as they did not meet inclusion criteria or themes, 06 articles were included. Results: Kegel exercises strengthen the perineal muscles, treating pelvic floor hypotonia. Kinesiotherapy can result in rapid recovery of urinary continence in patients undergoing prostatectomy. Final considerations: The effectiveness of kinesiotherapy, including Kegel exercises and early pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), in improving urinary symptoms, increasing pelvic muscle strength and recovering urinary continence stands out.
