Abstract

Objective: To quantitatively assess the level of knowledge of the multidisciplinary health team working in oncology on the concept and application of Palliative Care (PC) to patients. Methods: Application of a validated questionnaire, BPW (Bonn Palliative Care Knowledge Test), to health professionals in the oncology sector of a hospital, a private clinic and a Regional Center of Volunteers for the Prevention and Fight against Cancer, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Results: Questions from section 1 of the BPW that obtained statistical relevance were questions 2, 11 and 23, while from section 2 they were questions 2, 4 and 13. Regarding the completion of a degree or not, a significant difference was observed in knowledge in PC, in which professionals with a higher education level presented better results. Conclusion: Palliative Care is an area of great relevance for health professionals, since it maximizes the quality of life of cancer patients, but it is still little discussed during the undergraduate and training of health professionals.
