Abstract

Objective: Identify knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant women and community health agents regarding child development and breastfeeding according to the Child Health Booklet. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, a Knowledge, Attitude and Practice survey, with data collection between December/2018-February/2019. The data were analyzed in Stata 12.1, using the ANOVA test, considering a p-value <0.05. Results: A total of 500 pregnant women and 41 community agents were analyzed. Both participants had a higher frequency of adequate knowledge about paternal bonding and breastfeeding, and inadequate knowledge about the importance of toys for child development. When comparing the mean attitude scores with sociodemographic variables of pregnant women and community agents, the age of the pregnant woman showed statistical significance (p=0.005) in the item child development. The practice of exclusive breastfeeding in pregnant women with children ≤ 60 months was 56.0% (70/125) and the use of pacifiers was 50.4% (67/133).  Conclusion: The similarity of adequate and inadequate responses regarding the knowledge of pregnant women and community health agents, highlights the importance of the work of these professionals in monitoring people in a community. Individualized guidance and educational actions aimed at pregnant women and continued education for community health agents are suggested.
