Abstract
Objective: Discuss aspects related to the diagnosis and treatment of childhood insomnia and circadian rhythm disorders. Methods: This is an integrative review in specific databases, such as SciELO; PubMed; Scopus; ScienceDirect and VHL Nursing, where original works with related themes were defined and catalogued. A time frame was used with publications from the last five years, between 2020 and 2024. Results: It is possible to identify the reasons behind the child's inappropriate behavior in relation to sleep, and thus develop an effective intervention plan. Many of these behaviors are related to parental routine, clinical problems and excessive use of electronic and technological devices. Final considerations: The origin of insomnia and changes in the child's circadian cycle can be classified based on clinical, biological, genetic and behavioral reasons, and needs to be diagnosed and treated correctly, as the lack of control interferes with the integral development and sociability of the child. Therefore, the treatment of sleep disorders and changes in the circadian cycle in pediatrics requires medical assistance, in addition to monitoring by parents and caregivers in support of well-known principles of sleep hygiene.
