Overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

Objective: Provide didactic updates on the definition, diagnosis, legislation, intervention, and new therapeutic targets for ASD. Bibliographic review: The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) says respect to a meeting of neurobehavioral conditions, starting in early childhood, being characterized by the compromise of social skills and the presence of restrictive and repetitive behavioral patterns. It has a complex etiology, with interactions of genetic herdability and environmental influence, with an incidence of 1 in every 160 children in Latin America. The clinical picture of autism is aggravated by disorders associated with anxiety, irritability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or also sleep disorders. Final considerations: In the current scenario, only the behavioral disturbances associated with, the pharmacological risks linked to therapy for or treatment of ASD. Non-pharmacological practices have been shown to be positive in the best response to pharmacotherapy and in the best of social faculties. New studies aiming at more effective medications are being drawn up, with the expectation of significant improvement. Thus, it is not only in the therapeutic field, ASD, that we are gaining space, since the specific readings for autistic people are corroborated for the better quality of life and for the greater visibility of the disorder and its particularities.
