Abstract

Objective: To identify the available scientific evidence regarding the epidemiological profile of pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS in Brazil. Methods: The research was conducted through an integrative literature review, covering publications between 2020 and 2024. Results: During this period, there was an increase in the number of detected cases, indicating both an expansion of testing and the persistence of virus transmission. Vertical transmission, which occurs from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, remains one of the main public health challenges. However, prophylactic interventions, such as the administration of antiretroviral therapy (ART) during pregnancy, delivery, and to the newborn, have proven effective in reducing this form of transmission. The implementation of public health policies is considered essential for controlling the epidemic among pregnant women. Nonetheless, significant challenges persist, including difficulties in treatment adherence, inequalities in access to healthcare services, and social and economic barriers that affect the proper follow-up of these patients. Final considerations: Raising awareness, strengthening educational actions, and providing continuous and humanized care are essential to reduce the incidence of new cases and promote better maternal and child outcomes. Integrated public health strategies and ongoing education initiatives are indispensable to overcoming the remaining obstacles and improving the quality of life of pregnant women and their children.
