Abstract

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify the benefits and challenges of planned home birth (PHB) based on the assistance provided by nurses. Methods: Integrative review of analytical literature on the benefits and challenges of the PHB. Sampling, categorization and evaluation of articles, discussion and interpretation of these results were carried out. Studies from the BVS (Virtual Health Library) and PubMed databases were used, published from 2019 onwards, available free of charge and in full; through the descriptors: Home Birth, Childbirth Assistance, Obstetric Nursing and Professional Autonomy, associated with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. The concepts and definitions of the researched authors were preserved, with due citation and reference. Results: The search in the VHL and PubMed databases, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulted in only 7 articles, highlighting the benefits and challenges of the PHB, associated with nursing care. Final considerations: Planning at home offers significant benefits, but faces challenges, such as social prejudices and the lack of public policies that restrict access. This emphasizes the relevance of the obstetric nurse's autonomy in promoting qualified, woman-centered care.
