Abstract
Objective: To analyze the efficacy and safety of GLP-1 analogs as pharmacotherapy for the treatment of obesity based on scientific literature. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, including articles with full text and free access, in Portuguese or English, without a time frame, with searches conducted in the databases Scientific Electronic Library (SCIELO), PubMed, and BVS using health science descriptors in both Portuguese (DeCS) and English (MeSH) combined with boolean operators. The guiding question used was: Are GLP-1 analogs effective and safe for the treatment of obesity? Results: After a thorough selection, 19 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, addressing the guiding question and enriching the review. Final considerations: GLP-1 analogs are safe and effective for the treatment of obesity, showing superior effects compared to other methods, and their efficacy can be enhanced when combined with regular physical activity, a hypocaloric diet, and intensive behavioral therapy. Additionally, they have minimal and tolerable adverse effects with lower risks of complications.
