Abstract
Objective: To report the case of a patient evaluate the impact of oral conditions, before and after dental treatment, on the quality of life of school adolescents, measured through the OHIP14 questionnaire. Case Detail: Male patient, 16 years old, presented coronary destruction of the upper incisors by the advancement of the disease caries in these elements. He reported pain, difficulty in eating and, out of shame to speak and smile, he restricted himself from social life, including the school environment. Pulp vitality tests and periapical radiographs indicated pulp involvement in the upper incisors. The initial approach was the application of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP14) questionnaire, then dental treatment was performed. After the dental treatment, in a period of one year, the questionnaire was reapplied. To obtain the result of the research, the questionnaires were compared, observing significant changes in their answers. Final considerations: Dentistry expresses a role of great importance in the social and psychological relationships of individuals, restoring self-esteem, returning form, function and aesthetics to the smile. Dental treatment was presented as a tool for socialization and psychological well-being of the adolescent participating in this study.
