Abstract

Objective: To explore the role of nanotechnology in targeted drug delivery, evaluating its advantages, challenges, and impact on therapeutic efficacy, as well as its future clinical application perspectives. Methods: This is a integrative literature review, which included 12 studies selected after a search in the PubMed database. Results: The application of nanotechnology in drug delivery presents significant benefits, such as the ability to target treatment to specific cells, including inflammatory and neoplastic cells, and the reduction of adverse therapy effects. However, cellular toxicity, low nanoparticle bioavailability, and the scarcity of high-quality evidence studies remain key challenges to be overcome in order to enhance the effectiveness of these approaches. Final considerations: Recent advances in the field of nanotechnology show great potential to revolutionize the treatment of diseases with high morbidity and mortality. Nevertheless, it is essential to overcome technical obstacles and conduct more robust research to consolidate its clinical application and improve therapeutic outcomes.
