Abstract
Objective: To explore the main diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of Abdominal Cocoon Syndrome (ACS), a rare condition that is difficult to manage clinically. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted, analyzing articles published between 2019 and 2024 in medical databases. Studies addressing the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of ACS were included, totaling 14 articles selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: ACS is characterized by nonspecific symptoms, making its early diagnosis challenging. Computed tomography is the preferred examination for diagnostic suspicion, although the definitive diagnosis is usually made during surgery. Surgical treatment is effective in severe cases but is associated with postoperative complications. In patients with mild symptoms, conservative management, including decompression and clinical support, may be a viable approach. Conclusion:Successful treatment of ACS depends on early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach involving radiologists, surgeons, and clinicians. Individualizing the treatment according to the severity of the condition improves prognosis and reduces the risk of complications, ensuring a better quality of life for patients diagnosed with this condition.
