Abstract
Objective: To identify possible serum prognostic biomarkers in IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) that can be used in clinical practice. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) recommendations of 2020, with articles published between 2019 and 2024, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, and with availability of full works for online access. The guiding question was: Which serum biomarkers suggest a poor prognosis for patients with IgA nephropathy? Literature searches were carried out between the months of May and July 2024 in the databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Science Direct and Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo). The descriptors were: “IgA nephropathy”, “Prognosis” and “Prognostic factors”. Results: 9 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in which they did not restrict geographic location, age group, ethnicity and/or sex, were not related to another clinical condition and did not refer to biomarkers other than serum. Conclusion: 8 serum biomarkers surveyed proved to be effective in significantly predicting the prognosis in IgAN in their respective studies.
