Abstract
Objective: To evaluate burnout syndrome among nursing professionals in a municipal public hospital's emergency department and propose ergonomic recommendations for its prevention. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study with a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach, involving 15 nurses. Data collection included sociodemographic and general health questionnaires and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). A preliminary ergonomic assessment was conducted to identify occupational risks. Results: The sample consisted mainly of women aged 35 and over with children, partners, and more than one job. Regarding burnout syndrome dimensions, 54% of nurses exhibited a moderate risk of burnout, with impairments in two sizes. Additionally, 33% of the professionals showed a high risk, falling into the critical range across all three syndrome dimensions. Poor ergonomic factors were found in the emergency sector, including problems with work organization, inadequate furniture, and incorrect postures leading to stress and occupational burnout. Conclusion: In this sample, burnout syndrome was primarily characterized by emotional exhaustion, exacerbated by inadequate ergonomic conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to take physical, organizational and cognitive ergonomic measures to promote nurses' well-being.
