Abstract

Objective: To analyze the teaching of first aid in nursing courses at public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pará. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research carried out in the first semester of 2024. The raw data of the curricular components (Curriculum, Course Curriculum and Course Pedagogical Project) were retrieved from the websites of the HEIs in Pará with active status on the e-MEC portal. Results: 24 HEIs met the inclusion criteria (21 private and 3 public). The Course Curriculum was the component most frequently found (54%), especially in private HEIs. First aid is covered late in most courses, mainly in the 7th period (42%), with a workload of 60 to 267 hours, inserted from the 3rd to the 8th period, and with greater inclusion in the Urgency and Emergency subjects, without delimiting the discipline in a single discipline. Conclusion: The study revealed limitations in the teaching of first aid in nursing courses in Pará, requiring its insertion from the first semesters, longitudinally and exclusively, to better qualify the care of future nursing professionals and possibly reduce mortality in Pará.
