Abstract
Objective: Systematize knowledge about nursing care for elderly people with ischemic stroke in a hospital environment. Methods: An Integrative Literature Review was chosen to synthesize the knowledge whose search followed the PICO strategy, focusing on elderly people with acute ischemic stroke and nursing care. The LILACS, Medline, BDENF via VHL and SCOPUS databases were used, selecting articles between 2018 and 2023. The screening resulted in the inclusion of 9 articles after filtering 202 initially identified. Results: Given the temporal urgency, most of the selected studies aim to explore aspects of professional practice that can optimize treatment, promote the early start of rehabilitation, improve quality of life and reduce hospital readmission rates, through nursing care based on evidence. Final considerations: Nurses' autonomy and evidence-based strategies are essential to reduce readmissions, mortality and costs in cases of stroke, in addition to identifying and modifying risk factors. As ongoing caregivers, nurses play a central role in managing clinical outcomes, facilitating communication and early rehabilitation interventions to improve the prognosis of elderly patients with acute ischemic stroke.
