Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the regulatory role of time-restricted eating on metabolism in overweight and obese adults, exploring the underlying mechanisms and clinical impacts on metabolic health parameters. Methods: Integrative literature review, which used the electronic database PubMed Central (PMC). The search terms included “Time-Restricted Eating”, “TRE”, “Obesity”, “Metabolic Health”, and their combinations. A total of 14 articles were selected for detailed analysis. Results: ART can contribute to improving glycemic homeostasis, increasing insulin sensitivity and reducing inflammatory markers. Furthermore, the combination of ARTwith physical exercise further enhances the results in metabolic health. Despite the promising results, some studies indicate that TRE, alone, may not be more effective than a regular diet in weight loss. Final Considerations: Time-restricted eating (TRE) emerges as a promising strategy, demonstrating benefits in metabolic regulation and health promotion in overweight and obese individuals. However, it is crucial to recognize the complexity of the topic and the need for further research to explore the effectiveness of ERT in different populations and contexts.
