Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of triamcinolone hexacetonide in the treatment of alopecia areata, comparing it with other therapeutic approaches and considering short- and long-term clinical outcomes. Methods: This is an integrative review analyzing the population with alopecia areata, exposed to different medications, namely: triamcinolone hexacetonide, PRP, or minoxidil. The searches were conducted in the PubMed Central (PMC) database, resulting in a total of 243 articles, which underwent a selection and classification process. Results:  The selected articles showed that triamcinolone hexacetonide remains the first-line treatment, although it is a medication that is difficult to access in Brazil. Alternatives, proven by numerous studies, such as PRP, were presented as effective interventions, especially when combined with topical minoxidil. Final Considerations: It is concluded that triamcinolone is effective in the treatment of mild to moderate alopecia areata, but it presents significant side effects with prolonged use. Emerging therapies, such as PRP and minoxidil, offer promising alternatives with fewer risks and comparable results.
