Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the adequacy of bowel preparation, the cecal intubation rate and the adenoma detection rate in outpatient colonoscopies performed at an endoscopic training center of a tertiary hospital in the city of São Paulo over a period of one year. Method: Cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study, whose data source were the reports and anatomopathological analyzes of patients undergoing colonoscopy from June 2022 to May 2023 in a tertiary hospital. Results: The sample consisted of 630 colonoscopy exams. The average age of study participants was 58.6 years and the majority were female (65.7%). Colonic preparation was considered adequate in 88.8% of cases. A cecal intubation rate of 94.4% and an overall adenoma detection rate of 30.8% were achieved. Conclusion: The quality indicators analyzed show a strong interrelationship. The quality of bowel preparation and the adenoma detection rate reached the goals established by American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, while the cecal intubation rate approached the goal recommended by this entity.
