Abstract
Objective: To identify factors associated with frailty syndrome in elderly individuals enrolled in a basic health unit. Methodos: This is a longitudinal study, part of the Extension Project “Promotion and Rehabilitation of Functionality of the Elderly for Activities of Daily Living - Phase II”, limited to elderly individuals living in the community monitored by a Basic Health Unit in the city of Guarapuava. Results: Poor sleep quality was associated with frailty in 63.5%, hypertension in 78.3%, functionality in instrumental activities of daily living in 53.7%, obesity in 64.7%, cognitive impairment in 66.6%, low level of physical activity in 77%, risk of falls in 56.3%, polypharmacy in 64.8%, fatigue in 84.5%. The study was approved by the ethics committee. Conclusion: The factors associated with frailty found were poor sleep quality, hypertension, functional dependence for daily activities, obesity, cognitive impairment, low level of physical activity, risk of falls, polypharmacy and fatigue. The variables depression, family functionality and nutritional status were not associated. The results highlight the need for more investment in health promotion actions and interventions aimed at prevention, as well as control of diseases.
