Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the evidence on the established relationships between otosclerosis (OS) and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Methods: This is a scoping review study based on the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) method using the Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) instrument. Results: A total of 4578 articles were identified in the searched databases and, after applying filters and removing duplicates, 31 were subjected to title and abstract analysis, excluding 23 articles based on the eligibility criteria and 8 proceeding to the full-text reading stage. One article was also excluded because it was not published within the publication period established in the criteria and there was no free full text, totaling a sample of 7 articles. Some studies have analyzed cases of patients with OI who had otosclerotic hearing loss, and others have presented the analysis separately, with groups of patients with OI compared to other groups with OS. Generating two categories: OI with otosclerotic hearing loss; and OI compared to other groups of patients with OS. Conclusion: The relationship between OS and OI is presented in the literature in a limited way. However, the selected studies considered hearing loss as a condition that affects both diseases.
