Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impacts of the team's communication on patients in Palliative Care. Methods: This is a qualitative study conducted at a reference oncology hospital in Pernambuco. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with oncology patients in Palliative Care. The saturation criterion of Turato and Minayo's Thematic Content Analysis were used. The study included 10 patients, predominantly female (60%) and receiving outpatient care (70%). The average age of the participants was 57.4 years, ranging from 33 to 80 years. Results: Five themes were identified: Process of transfer to Palliative Care; Perception of Palliative Care; Importance of the Palliative Care team's communication; Impacts of Palliative Care on patients' mental health; and Coping strategies and protective factors in Palliative Care. Conclusion: This research highlighted the importance of effective communication between the health team and patients in Palliative Care. However, the study had a small sample size and limited interview time.
