Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between Motor Development (MD), motor opportunities present in the home environment and socioeconomic factors of infants exposed to syphilis. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, exploratory and quantitative study. Fifty-seven infants exposed to syphilis participated in the research. The instruments used were an assessment form, the Affordances questionnaire in the Home Environment for Motor Development Infant-Scale (AHEMD-IS) and the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS). For the relationship between DM, socioeconomic aspects and motor opportunities, Spearman's Correlation Coefficient was used. Results: Paternal education, gross motor toys and the total AHEMD-IS score were correlated with DM. Paternal education also correlated with the total AHEMD-IS score, family income with the availability of fine motor toys and maternal education with the physical space of the home. Conclusion: Motor opportunities in the home environment and paternal education are associated with better performance in DM, as well as paternal education is also related to better motor opportunities.
