Abstract
Objective: To conduct a survey of national and international literature from the last 40 years on psychological, cognitive and physiological assessment instruments applied to children and adolescents in orphanhood. Methods: This study is characterized as an integrative literature review. To facilitate understanding of the collection procedures, a flowchart was used to organize and present the data according to PRISMA guidelines. Results: The search resulted in 84 articles that provide an overview of ways to assess different aspects of orphanhood, of which 57 were discarded, 19 were duplicates and eight were selected for analysis. Among the selected articles, 22 instruments were found, focusing on the cognitive (3), psychological (14), physiological (1) and measurement of life experiences (4) dimensions. Final considerations: Conducting an integrative review of the literature on the psychosocial impact of orphanhood, especially in relation to the loss of one or both parents, has social and academic relevance.
