Abstract

Objective: To survey the scientific production on the role of nurses in home palliative care. Methods: This is an integrative literature review of the SCIELO, LILACS, Coleciona SUS, MEDLINE and BDENF – Nursing databases, from 2019 to 2023, in the Portuguese language, in which a total of 1,563 articles were identified, with full-text articles being accepted, directly addressing the theme of the work and published in the last 5 years. The exclusion criterion eliminated duplicate articles, obtaining the final sample of 9 articles. The search strategy includes DeCS and MeSH: Cuidados Paliativos/Palliative Care, Assistência Domiciliar/Home Care, Enfermagem/Nursing. The search was carried out using the three descriptors together with the Boolean operator “AND”. Results: The articles were categorized, containing the identification of the authors, year of publication, objective and main findings of the studies selected for the body of discussion of the review. During the work, some difficulties and characteristics associated with the role of the Nurse in providing Palliative Care to patients in home care were identified. Final considerations: The practice of palliative care reflects the provision of humanized support, which is challenging for the nurse because the patient presents numerous particularities that make the professional's work complex.
