Abstract
Objective: Discuss the work of residents of the surgical center (SC) and central sterile services (CSS) program, at the Hospital Infection Control Center (NCIH), of a public health institution. Experience report: This is a descriptive experience report, based on the experience of two nursing residents in a surgical center (SC), while they were interning at the NCIH. This experience took place through the participation of residents in NCIH activities within the surgical center, such as carrying out surgical preparation of the surgical teams' hands, as well as good practices included in the surgical site infection (SSI) prevention bundle, in addition to carrying out epidemiological surveillance of SSIs subject to compulsory notification to ANVISA. Final Considerations: The opportunity for CC and CCS residents to pass through the NCIH contributed to the training and understanding of these future specialists, emphasizing the importance of the center, its actions and the repercussions that the lack of adherence, on the part of professionals, brings to patients.
