Abstract

Objective: To describe the profile of adverse event (AE) reports related to Glifage XR® (metformin) and Ozempic® (semaglutide) in Brazil, between 2019 and 2023. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study, based on secondary data from the ANVISA Pharmacovigilance Notification Panel on adverse events associated with these specific antidiabetics to treat type 2 diabetes. Results: During the period analyzed, we identified 35 EA features for Glifage XR® and Ozempic®. Glifage XR® had the most reports in 2021, while Ozempic® was highlighted in 2022. Glifage XR® reports were equally distributed between men and women (50% each). Ozempic® presented a predominance of notifications in women (74%), with men representing only 26%. Conclusion: The study highlighted the adverse reaction profile of these medications over the last five years. Ozempic® had a higher frequency of notifications in 2021 and 2022, possibly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, health problems related to the virus and the indiscriminate aesthetic use of the drug. The analysis highlights the importance of pharmacovigilance to understand the impact of the use of these medicines and their potential implications for public health.
