Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the use of asynchronous video lessons in the Surgical Technique Bases (BTC) Bases compared to traditional methodology, student motivation and learning. Methods: Medical students were divided into 2 groups: The intervention group received access to video lessons and standard teaching materials of the discipline and the control group only received the standard didactic material. The research was divided into 3 parts: pretest, which evaluated the students' prior knowledge; Post-test (1) performed immediately after the traditional class of discipline; and post-test (2) performed after 14 days from the beginning of the intervention. To evaluate the motivation of the students, the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey questionnaire was adopted, validated in Brazil (IMMS-BRV). Results: Motivation was high in both groups. Specifically, in the dimensions of the “Attention” and “expectation” motivation, a statistically significant difference was observed among students up to 21 years. The notes remained high at all stages of the study. Conclusion: Ascrone video lessons are modern and motivating resources, especially for younger students, and they can be added to BTC discipline as a tool easily accessed by academics at relevant moments of the study routine, expanding their applicability and generating knowledge retention
