Abstract

Objective: To understand how mental health care impacts the treatment of fibromyalgia patients. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, using the Medline/Pubmed and Virtual Health Library databases; the descriptors were outlined using the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) platform. Results: The inclusion of psychological interventions in the treatment of fibromyalgia, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Personal Construction Therapy (PCT), contributes to improving not only the main disorders associated with the condition, such as depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders, but also the painful symptoms and progression of the disease itself. These interventions provided beneficial effects on inflammatory markers and central sensitization, providing both physical and psychological improvements. Final considerations: Psychological support in multicomponent treatment emerges as an essential strategy for effective and integrated management of fibromyalgia, promoting substantial improvements in quality of life.
