Abstract

Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of AIDS mortality in Brazil, enabling the identification of different patterns between regions and states. Methods: This is an ecological study, with time series analysis techniques, of AIDS-related deaths, registered in the Mortality Information System from 2001 to 2023. Time trend analyses were performed by sex, race/color, age group, region and federative unit of residence, using the Joinpoint Regression software. The study used publicly accessible secondary data and respected the aspects of resolution no. 466 of the National Health Council. Results: During the period, there were 265,935 AIDS deaths in Brazil, predominantly in the age group of 30 to 49 years (59.3%) and in males (66.8%). The country showed a decreasing trend (AAPC=- 0.74) in the AIDS mortality rate for both sexes. In the south and southeast regions, the trend was decreasing, while in the north and northeast regions, the trend was increasing. Conclusion: Differentiated patterns were identified in the trend of AIDS mortality in the country, highlighting the need for policies that understand and consider these differences, so that we can ensure equity in a country of vast size and great inequalities.
