Abstract

Objective: Analyze blood component requests in 2022 at a hospital in Belém, Pará, considering epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory findings related to the indication of these blood components. Methods: This is an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study, with data collection done through the institution's database system, from January to December 2022, with subsequent statistical analysis of the findings and tabulation of the results found. Results: A total of 879 transfusions were identified in the period, with a predominance of females (71.7%) with a mean age of 44 years. Most transfusions occurred in the intensive care unit (49.1%), with a predominance of hematological diseases (29.7%) and infectious diseases (16%). The analysis also revealed that 96.9% of requests were in compliance with established protocols. These findings indicate that blood components are used appropriately in most situations, although they highlight the need for ongoing monitoring and education on transfusions to reduce risks. Conclusion: The transfusion profile in the hospital analyzed is in line with current guidelines, reflecting responsible practice in the use of blood components. The importance of continued collection and analysis of transfusion data is highlighted to improve management policies and ensure patient safety.
