Abstract
Objective: To synthesize the scientific publications on the knowledge and attitude of health professionals and caregivers in relation to neonatal screening in the last ten years. Methods: This is an integrative literature review study, with data collection carried out between March and November 2024, using the PEO strategy to elaborate the research question: “What is the scientific evidence on the knowledge and attitude of health professionals and caregivers in relation to neonatal screening?”, carried out in the Pubmed, Web of Science and BVS databases. Inclusion criteria: complete articles published between 2014 and 2024, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, which answered the guiding question. Results: 14 studies were considered eligible, with the majority of publications in English, between 2017 and 2023, with a quantitative approach, and more than half of the studies addressed only the mother. The categories identified were: Knowledge and attitudes of parents and Knowledge and attitudes of health professionals. In both cases, limited knowledge prevailed, especially about triadic diseases. Final considerations: It can be consideredthat there is a knowledge gap between health professionals and families about neonatal screening, compromising adherence to adequate and timely treatment of affected children.
