Abstract
Objective: To describe the dynamic assessment of frailty and functionality in elderly onco-hematologic patients treated at the Hematology Outpatient Clinic of the Ophir Loyola Hospital, Belém, Pará, identifying clinical characteristics and analyzing frailty and functionality according to diagnosis. Methods: A prospective, observational, and descriptive study was conducted with 70 patients diagnosed with lymphoproliferative disorders and multiple myeloma. The Onco-Hematogeriatrics Protocol Assessment Form was used, including sociodemographic, anthropometric, clinical, and functional data. The Frailty Scale (Frail Scale) and the Lawton Scale were applied to assess current functionality and six months earlier, with descriptive and inferential analyses performed using Biostat software. Results: Initially, 85.71% of patients were independent according to the Lawton Scale, decreasing to 60% after six months (p < 0.0001). Patients with multiple myeloma showed the greatest functional decline, with an increase in severe dependency (0% to 19.35%) and moderate dependency (3.23% to 22.58%; p = 0.0024). The Frail Scale revealed a significant increase in frailty among patients with multiple myeloma (12.90% to 35.48%; p = 0.0002). The mean BMI was 25.5 kg/m² (±4.891), indicating a prevalence of overweight. Conclusion: Functionality and frailty worsen over time, especially in patients with multiple myeloma, emphasizing the need for monitoring and early intervention to mitigate clinical impacts. Future studies should further explore these interactions.
