Abstract

Objective: To map the equipment and analyze the production of Nuclear Medicine (NM) exams in the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Pernambuco, and Sergipe in 2022, assessing compliance with SUS (Unified Health System) guidelines according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health. Methods: This observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and quantitative study used secondary data from DATASUS and IBGE for 2022. Information about Gamma Camera (GC) and PET/CT equipment was collected from the CNES (National Registry of Health Establishments). The number of procedures performed was obtained through SIA/SUS. Results: NM equipment is concentrated in the capitals of their respective states, except in Bahia. Only Alagoas and Sergipe met the criteria and parameters established by SUS for PET/CT equipment. Alagoas had the highest rate of GC per million inhabitants among the studied states. There was low variability in the types of procedures performed, which may indicate the need for an information campaign on the applicability of NM and procedures authorized by SUS. Conclusion: The results highlight challenges in integrating high-cost technologies like NM into SUS, signaling the need for measures to improve distribution and access, particularly in underserved regions.
