Abstract

Objective: To analyze the influence of lifestyle habits as a risk factor for atrial fibrillation and stroke in young adults. Methods: Integrative review using the MedLine, LILACS and IBECS databases, establishing as descriptors “Atrial Fibrillation”, “Ischemic Stroke” and “Young Adult”. The search filters “English” and “Spanish” were used, the time frame from 2014 to 2024, selecting articles with full content available and excluding those that did not answer the guiding question: “How do lifestyle habits impact the relationship between atrial fibrillation and the risk of stroke in young adults?”. The review includes cohort, case-control and etiology studies. Results: The 13 publications that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria showed that factors such as smoking, alcoholism, use of some contraceptive methods by women, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension or dyslipidemia were associated with a higher risk of stroke in individuals with AF. Conclusion: The literature indicates a direct relationship between AF and stroke and a close association between lifestyle habits and the development of both pathologies in young adult patients.
